Prof Adil Mardinoglu
Professor Adil Mardinoglu is a leading expert in systems medicine, computational biology, and bioinformatics. He is a Professor of Systems Biology at King’s College London and at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, where he leads cross-disciplinary research in host–microbiome interactions. He also directs the Centre for Host-Microbiome Interactions (CHMI) and has published extensively on metabolic modelling and drug repurposing. Professor Mardinoglu has led multiple EU-funded consortia and is actively involved in translating systems-level data into actionable clinical strategies for chronic diseases, including cancer and metabolic disorders.
Prof Leroy Hood
Dr Leroy Hood, recipient of the National Medal of Science in 2011, co-founded the Institute for Systems Biology and served as its first President until 2017. He is one of only twenty scientists elected to all three United States National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. He earned his MD from Johns Hopkins and his PhD from Caltech, where he contributed to the development of technologies that made the Human Genome Project possible.
With more than 850 publications, 36 patents, and 18 honorary degrees, Dr Hood now focuses his work on Alzheimer’s, cancer, and leading a one million patient genome and phenome initiative. His many honours include the Lasker Award, the Kyoto Prize, the Heinz Award, the Russ Prize, and the National Academy of Sciences Award for Chemistry in Service to Society.
Dr Cheng Zhang
Dr. Cheng Zhang is a Senior Lecturer in systems medicine at King’s College London and a Group Leader at SciLifeLab, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. His research bridges computational biology, multi-omics, and translational science, with a focus on digital human models and AI-guided drug discovery.
Dr. Zhang has pioneered techniques integrating metabolic networks with deep learning to predict therapeutic targets. His work supports innovation in personalised medicine and biotechnology development. Dr Saeed Shoaie
Dr. Saeed Shoaie leads the Translational Systems Biology group at King’s College London and has been a BBSRC and EPSRC UKRI fellow since 2018. He is also the Deputy Lead of the MSc in Microbiome programme and specialises in host–microbiome interactions, metabolic modelling, and systems biology.
Dr. Shoaie received his MSc and PhD in engineering and synthetic biology from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, under the mentorship of Professor Jens Nielsen. His current work focuses on microbiome-driven disease mechanisms, therapeutic modelling, and developing computational platforms for multi-omics-based health solutions.
Selin Demiroz
